How much does it cost to charge an EV at home?
At the U.S. average of 18.34¢ per kWh, a full charge of a 75 kWh battery costs about $15.13 including charging losses, roughly 5–6 cents per mile. From about 13¢/kWh in Nevada to over 50¢ in Hawaii.
Is charging an EV cheaper than gas?
Usually. At average prices an EV costs about $60.52 a month to charge at home for 1,000 miles, while a 28 mpg car uses about $159 of gas.
How long does it take to charge an electric car?
On a 120 V outlet, 2–3 days from empty. On a Level 2 home charger, overnight (6–12 hours). On a DC fast charger most EVs go from 10% to 80% in 20–45 minutes.

Residential electricity prices by state from the U.S. Energy Information Administration and AAA state gas averages. You can enter the rate from your own bill under “Customize”.
